MCMI®-IV MENTAL HEALTH EVALUATION
After identifying additional problem areas, you’ll complete an MCMI®-IV mental health evaluation to look for any additional clinical disorder or personality disorders that could be co-occurring disorders.
The MCMI was developed and standardized specifically on clinical populations for example, clients in clinical settings or people with existing mental health problems, and the authors are very specific that it should not be used with the general population or adolescents. However, there is evidence base that shows that it may still retain validity on non-clinical populations, and so psychologists will sometimes administer the test to members of the general population, with caution. The concepts involved in the questions and their presentation make it unsuitable for those with below average intelligence or reading ability
The Millon® Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-IV, or MCMI®-IV, helps clinicians quickly identify clients who may require more intensive evaluation. MCMI®-IV reports provide an in-depth analysis of personality and symptom dynamics, and include action-oriented suggestions for therapeutic management

About The Authors...

Theodore Millon, PhD, DSc
Despite his humble beginnings as the son of Polish immigrants struggling to survive during the Depression, Dr. Millon excelled in his collegiate studies of psychology and anthropology. After completing his dissertation in 1953, Dr. Millon began his teaching career at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. It was during his first year in this position that he began his own evolution from merely teaching psychology to patient advocacy, revolutionizing the assessment treatment continuum, and development of the personality test that would eventually become today’s MCMI-IV. He was rewarded for his hardwork with a much deeper understanding of the patients housed in the chronic wards, and has credited his time there during “unconventional visiting hours” with a good portion of his inspiration for writing Modern Psychopathology (MP) and developing diagnostic tools such as the MCMI®, the original iteration of the MCMI-IV. During the development of the MCMI-IV, Dr. Millon shared his ideas on the importance of “understanding theory and assessment and how they coordinate together to give us the central core of the emergence of the field of personality disorders.”
